Why is Clean Care so necessary in today’s world?

According to the Environmental Working Group, most of the over ten thousand ingredients used in personal care products on the market today have not been evaluated for safety! Selecting products that are effective and safe has become a daunting task.

Enter Clean Care

Clean Care simplify things by doing the homework (so you don’t have to) and working only with best of breed CANADIAN manufacturers that meet their strict criteria.  Organic Lifestyle is pleased to carry 2 gift packages made using Clean Care brands:

In preparation for this exciting collaboration, we sat down with Jenise Lee – Clean Care’s Founder – to learn more.

Jenise, what drove you to get involved with Clean Care?

I love love love educating and empowering people to make healthier choices for themselves and for the environment. More recently, I have been applying my analytical skills along with my business acumen to position small, Canadian eco businesses for growth as a strategy consultant.  I’ve got a real soft spot for environmental businesses and NGOs.

Why focus on beauty products?

It is shocking how few people realize that the products we use to beautify ourselves are the very things that are adding toxic chemicals to our bodies. These chemicals can lead to hormonal & reproductive issues, cancer, and not to mention are detrimental to our environment.  Also, beauty is universal – it is relevant to the rich and the poor, and it crosses all cultural and geographical boundaries.

Tell us how Clean Care is “more than a seal”.

Not only does Clean Care designate its “Clean Care Approved” seal, it also assists small businesses in their marketing efforts and distribution outlets. To compete in the marketplace, small businesses need more than just a seal to help them differentiate their products against bigger competitors.  These socially and environmentally responsible businesses typically have limited marketing budgets and distribution outlets – therefore, they’re often not reaching the consumers looking for safer alternatives to traditional beauty products.

Why should consumers buy their products from Clean Care as opposed to a larger company such as, say, Sephora, which also carries products labeled as ‘natural’?

I was just at a drugstore and saw a hand soap clearly indicating that it contains “Certified Organic Aloe Vera”.  That sounds good, right?  Not really – out of the 14 ingredients listed – 7 of them were either potential carcinogens (cancer causing agents) or potential endocrine disruptors (affects the hormonal system).

“Just because a product contains one certified organic ingredient does not mean the product does not contain harmful chemicals.”

Clean Care – a third party trusted seal – protects shoppers against these misleading labeling practices, and reduces shopper confusion as to which products contain harmful ingredients and which do not.

Final thoughts from Megan Alexander, Organic Lifestyle:

We are happy to announce that Organic Lifestyle is the very first e-retailer to commit to having a Clean Care section on its site.  We love what Clean Care is about and, like Organic Lifestyle, we are dedicated to curating products that are truly healthier for you and for the environment.
